Artisan hand crafted from a single piece of natural bamboo, each whisk is shaped into 100 or 120 fine, flexible prongs through a precise and delicate process. Each prong is carefully split, shaved and shaped to create the flexibility needed to whisk matcha into a smooth, creamy foam. Each step in the crafting process is carefully executed by artisan craftsmen using traditional techniques.
Each MOMO chasen is hand selected for the highest quality, with consideration given to its construction, prong formation and finish.
Hand-Carved Craftsmanship
Creating a bamboo chasen is a highly intricate process. A single piece of bamboo is carefully divided into dozens of exceptionally fine prongs, which are individually split, shaved, shaped and curled without breaking the delicate bamboo.
The higher the prong count, the greater the precision required to create the fine, flexible structure. Our 100-prong and 120-prong chasen are designed to move efficiently through matcha, helping reduce clumps and incorporate air for a smooth consistency and fine layer of foam.
